Where will we draw the line? Chicken feet now on the repair
list.
Mascotting is very serious business, no matter how cute the mascots may look.
The Denny’s Superbird is an example.
When the folks at Denny’s Restaurants needed to protect Superbird’s feet, they called the Quick Cobbler.
Says Denny’s Marketing Manager Brent Armstrong, "We chose the Quick Cobbler for a couple of reasons; 1) their excellent reputation in this city for providing quality craftsmanship at a reasonable price. 2) their speedy service. As I had a rather unusual job
for them, they were more than ready to accept the challenge. Denny’s has a mascot called the
'Superbird' and its feet kept wearing out. The Quick Cobbler suggested a thick non-slip surface to prolong the feet and supply added comfort. It worked like a charm and the feet look
great!"
To get an idea of what it would be like to wear one of these suits, duct tape cushions to your feet, stuff your head between a pillow and the pillow case and then wrap yourself up in a futon.
If you do try the above, please send us a picture.

Walking charger takes
next step
By Roy Rubenstein,
Electronics Weekly
The prospect of a human-powered battery charger has moved a step closer with British shoe specialist Texon backing inventor Trevor Baylis’ latest venture.
The Leicester-based shoe material specialist will become the majority shareholder in a company being set up with Baylis to develop ways of powering devices such as mobile phones, simply by walking.
“We want to become the Intel of the footwear industry,” said Texon's Piers Hubbard-Miles, who will become the managing director of the new firm called The Electric Shoe Company. “We have a significant R&D effort, but it is biased to materials science. We are setting aside significant cash to outsource the R&D on the electronics side.”
The schemes being looked at to generate electricity through the action of walking include piezoelectrics, electromechanical schemes such as dynamos and solar power. “The key is the efficiency of the conversion,” said Hubbard-Miles. “Piezoelectric generates lots of volts but power is not straightforward.”
Baylis told EW that he hopes Freeplay - the maker of Baylis’ earlier success, the wind up radio - will join the venture.

Shake it! Shake it!
Shake that thang!
A huge thank you to Brenda Fowler of Vancouver’s Westend for creating our little boogie boy, now working our window during select hours.
“My work varies using many different media types,” says Brenda. “I get ideas in my head, or people relate what they are looking for and I try to emulate it. With the Dancing Cobbler, I took a dancing Santa, cut his head off, and then made a new one from paper maché. I then made the outfit out from old clothes from the boys at the Quick Cobbler. The odds and ends are a little wood, a little plastic clay and some flea market specials.”

Let's ask Grandpa!
Grandpa Nijdam is pretty much the guy who started it all.
He handed his skills down to Ronald’s father who handed them down to Ronald.
Don't think it can be fixed? Ask him. He answers all your questions from beyond the grave.
Q: Grandpa. You gotta help me. My ankle keeps “flying low”, if you know what I mean.
A: Zipper repair and replacement is no problem for the nice boys at the cobbler shop. Often times just the slider (the little zippy thingy) needs to be repaired or replaced which costs less than the whole zipper.
This expertise isn’t just reserved for footwear either it can also apply to motorcycle gear, athletic gear, and the odd tie-me-up kind of stuff.
Q: Yo Grandpa. Wazzup? I'd like to completely change the sole on my shoe and perhaps adjust the height while we’re at it. Can this be done?
A: Near anything is possible if you’re talking about my Grandson’s shop.
Total rebuilds. From thick to thin or treaded to smooth, heels to flats, white to black.
We have a full selection of Vibram soles as well as Biltrite soles with Kevlar. Come on down...WE WON’T BE UNDERSOLED!
Q: Hi Grandpa. I know that most athletic footwear is over-priced to pay for the marketing and athlete spokespersons, but I'm not a sucker anymore. Can these things be fixed?
A: Since athletic footwear fits on your foot, they can fix it. Eyelets, hooks, rips in leather or fabric, professional clean, de-stinking, complete resole, heel and lining repair.
My grandson and the boys can add new insoles and footbeds for running. Try some Thorlos socks too. They’ll feel like new.

| New soles from Vibram®.
Stalker, Bifida and Izalco.
Virtually any casual or dress footwear can be resoled.
Vibram® makes a great variety of soles for most any type of footwear.
Let’s go through three new soles so you’ll know what to ask for when you come in.
Gumlite is unique. It combines slip resistance with the long wearing characteristics of rubber, yet is half the weight. Gumlite even holds its slip-resisting characteristics in cold weather.
A popular option is to resole dress shoes that have hard and stiff leather soles, with a new light weight Gumlite sole. Better grip, cushioning and comfort are the result.
The Vibram® Stalker Unit Sole is designed for stability, comfort and durability. It is ideal for use in work and outdoor footwear. Available in black and brown.
Vibram® Bifida cup sole provides excellent traction on wet/dry surfaces and various terrain. It was created for use in hiking and outdoor footwear applications. Available in Henry Ford black.
Vibram® Izalco Sole is designed for use on work and casual footwear. Available in black and tobacco.
Vibram® Grip Rock Climbing Soling Sheet. Grip compound provides optimum traction for indoor or outdoor rock climbing shoes. 1.8, 3.5, 5.0 mm thicknesses available.
